Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is a direct sequel to the first film directed by Scott Derrickson. The upcoming sequel will also feature Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange.
Dr. Strange himself has appeared in many MCU films, including Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and most recently Spider-Man: No Way Home. Scott Derrickson will not return to direct the second film, and has been replaced by Sam Raimi.
First announced 2 years ago, Marvel has finally released the first trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The trailer teases fans with the start of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which will relate to the Multiverse.

The Official Teaser that Marvel released shows the mystical action of Dr. Strange on a scale that has probably never been seen before.
The trailer also features many familiar faces such as Scarlet Witch and Mordo. In addition, America Chavez also made his debut in this Doctor Strange sequel.
Initially the WandaVision series would be a direct link to the Multiverse of Madness. But all references from Dr. Strange was cut to focus more on Wanda’s transformation into Scarlet Witch.
